MORE EFFICIENT, FASTER PROCESS: MyEG targets to launch service next month

MALAYSIA'S e-government services provider My E.G. Services Bhd (MyEG) will introduce a new service that allows the online transfer of vehicle ownership via its website.

The service, under the purview of the Road Transport Department (RTD), is targeted for full launch next month.

Executive chairman Datuk Dr Norraesah Mohamad said the new e-government service empowers vehicle owners to be proactive in ensuring full completion of a vehicle ownership transfer pro-cess.

Managing director TS Wong said MyEG is confident the new service will be very well-received because it lowers the cost, and is more efficient and much faster.

"Of course, the fact that it will be utilised mainly by the industry group, namely the used car dealers and the finance companies, means that the take-up rate will be much faster," he told a press conference after the company's shareholders' meeting yesterday.

The service consists of two phases, the temporary e-transfer of ownership or "E-Tukar Hakmi-lik Sementara", where the ownership of vehicles is transferred to used car dealers, and voluntary e-transfer of ownership or "E-Tukar Hakmilik Sukarela", to the even-tual buyer.

Norraesah said in the temporary e-transfer of ownership phase, all liabilities will fall on the dealers.

She added that the objective is to protect sellers and absolve them from any matters pertaining to the car during the transitional phase before being sold to the next owner.

MyEG will also provide training for used car dealers and finance companies, as most car ownership transfers usually go through either one party.
