TM expects 200,000 SME subscribers for its cloud service product

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is expecting more than 200,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to use the latest cloud computing technique Office 365 in the next three years.
TM collaborated with Microsoft Malaysia to expand its cloud services offering, by including Microsoft Office 365 as part of TM's software service, which would be delivered through TM's wholly-owned subsidiary, VADS Bhd.
The syndicate partnership was formed to bring Office 365 to Malaysian businesses throughout the country.
VADS CEO and TM executive vice-president of the enterprise division Ghazali Omar, said: “Office 365 will strengthen our cloud offering to the market, joining a family of applications and solutions in our cloud portal.”
Microsoft managing director Ananth Lazarus said TM was the ideal syndication partner that could help Microsoft bring the benefits of Office 365 to all businesses.
He said both Microsoft and TM had the same vision to empower Malaysian businesses with world-class information and communication technology (ICT) solutions.
TM is Malaysia's leading broadband provider with a 95% share of the Malaysian fixed broadband market.
The software is mainly targeted at SMEs. With Office 365, customers will be able to learn and use Office Web Apps, Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint Online, Microsoft Lync Online and to set up an external website quickly and easily.
SMEs will be able to have full access to e-mail, documents, calendars and contacts across different technology mediums.
They will also be able to view, edit and share documents securely with colleagues and business partners.
“For now, we are targeting the SMEs but we are going to look at the Government and infrastructure segments as well,” said Ghazali, adding that TM was the only service provider in Malaysia that provided dedicated 24/7 local technical support for Office 365.
At present, there are 450,000 SMEs using TM Internet services. The software would be available next month at an undisclosed cost.
