Teraju receives 69 proposals worth RM6.6bil so far this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputra Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) has received 69 project proposals worth RM6.57bil until September this year.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said Teraju was scrutinising all the proposals to ensure they meet the stipulated conditions.

“Currently, eight bumiputra private finance initiative projects worth RM88mil have been approved,” he said in reply to a question from Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail (BN-Paya Besar) at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Abdul Manan wanted to know the initiatives provided by the Government under Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (YPPB) foundation to help the bumiputras.

Nor Mohamed said YPBB was one of the initiatives launched by the Government to strengthen the capability and skills of bumiputras to compete globally.

“We are aware that although there were many bumiputras who had completed their studies in accountancy, not many of them are working in the field,” he said.

He said the Government, through Teraju, has launched short- and long-term programmes to ensure that the bumiputras were given the opportunities to get involved in key sectors like accountancy.

Nor Mohamed said an initial fund of RM148mil has been collected from companies and government agencies for the programmes. - Bernama
