Seek new opportunities in growth marts, firms told
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian companies must make every effort to look for new opportunities in the growth markets of the future, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.
In the midst of the global economic uncertainties, local businesses could no longer fully rely on traditional trading partners, he said.
"Indeed, there are ample business opportunities in Asia," he said at The Star Business Awards 2012 last night.
Ahmad Husni said Asean countries were looking forward to the realisation of the Asean Economic Community in 2015, as there would be free flow of goods and services, investments and capital move-ments across borders, while skilled workers and talents would be able to choose where they want to work, he added.
He said Malaysian companies have to be prepared to take advantage of the freer and expanded market initiatives.
"We need to meet the challenges brought about by market globalisation and liberalisation. Our companies must be capable of integrating into the regional and global supply chains," he stressed.
Ahmad Husni said the capacity and capabilities of Malaysian entrepreneurs, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the business community have to be upgraded.
"While the government continues to extend all the help that it can through financial assistance, infrastructural development and regulatory support, the SMEs must also rise to the challenge to see beyond what is in the immediate front," he added. Bernama
