Malaysian Businessmen Urged To Tap Into Pakistan's New Sectors

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, has urged Malaysian businessmen to be competitive and tap into Pakistan's new potential sector besides palm oil.

He said the energy sector was one of them and was currently growing rapidly.

"Pakistan has a lot of potentials in the energy sector. They have a power plant in south Pakistan but lack the technology regarding energy development," he told a media briefing here Tuesday.

Currently, he said, Pakistan has 17 power plant companies including Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

Hasrul said Malaysian businessmen could also tap into Pakistan's halal sector.

"Pakistan is seeking our help as we are well-known for our halal industry.

"They need to improve their halal industry to meet requirements of producing standard halal food," he said.

He said businessmen who had established themselves in Pakistan needed to be more competitive in order to maintain their investments there.

"Malaysia is currently the biggest palm oil exporter to Pakistan.

"However, other countries, such as Indonesia, have shown improvements. We might lose out if we do not continue to progress," he said.

He advised Malaysians not to depend on the media alone to know what's happening in Pakistan.

"Don't worry to much. We must also depend on others like friends to get a clearer picture about what's happening in Pakistan.
