MRT Corp awards 3 more station jobs totalling RM732.2mil
PETALING JAYA: Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded three more station packages totalling RM732.2mil for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line.
In a statement, MRT Corp said the awards were made following a meeting of the One-Stop Procurement Committee (OSPC) in Putrajaya.
Naim Engineering Sdn Bhd, UEM Construction Sdn Bhd and Apex Communications Sdn Bhd were awarded jobs for the construction and completion of elevated stations and other associated works.
“These awards are the best evaluated bids from the group which was shortlisted earlier. With three more station packages awarded, I'm glad to say that the MRT project is progressing very well,” said MRT Corp chief executive Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid.
Naim Engineering bagged a package worth RM204.7mil for works at Taman Industri Sungai Buloh, PJU 5 and Dataran Sunway. The company had recently won the RM208mil contract in end-July for the construction and completion of elevated stations at Sect 16, Damansara Town Centre and Semantan.
UEM Construction won the construction work package for The Curve, One Utama and Taman Tun Dr Ismail valued at RM275.8mil. On Sept 26 it was awarded the package worth RM951mil for the construction and completion of the viaduct guideway from Taman Mesra to Kajang Station.
Meanwhile, Apex Communica-tions' package worth RM251.7mil will see the construction and completion of the Saujana Impian, Bandar Kajang and Kajang elevated stations. It's earlier package was for the construction of the Balakong and Taman Koperasi stations, valued at RM104.7mil.
MRT Corp said in its statement that all three tenders were open to 12 pre-qualified bumiputra companies.
The addition of the three packages has bumped up the total number of packages awarded to 48, out of a total of 85 packages. Azhar had said in August that he expected all 85 packages to be awarded by year-end.
The SBK line, which is the first of two proposed MRT lines, is part of the National Key Economic Area under the Government's Economic Transformation Programme.
The 51-km line runs from the northwest town of Sungai Buloh to the southeast town of Kajang. Once complete, it would feature 31 stations and serve about 1.2 million people.
The announcement for the second line is expected to be sometime next year.
