Projects aplenty in Kazakhstan
KUALA LUMPUR: Kazakhstan is keen to have collaboration with Malaysian companies in the country's infrastructure development.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said a number of projects in Kazakhstan had been offered for cooperation.
“These included 20 hospitals which they planned to build. They are also very keen to develop their public transport systems,” he said after launching a roundtable meeting between Malaysian and Kazakhstan business people at Menara Matrade here yesterday.
The roundtable meeting was attended by 130 Malaysian and 50 Kazakhstan business delegates, and was organised ahead of a two-day state visit by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is expected to arrive here today.
Also present at the roundtable meeting was Kazakhstan Industry and New Technologies Minister Asset Issekeshev.
“We are very keen on signing a few MoUs (memorandum of understanding) with them. There are many investment opportunities in Kazakhstan,” said Mustapa.
He pointed out that opportunities for Malaysian business people in Kazakhstan can also be found in sectors such as construction, Information Technology, finance and Islamic banking.
“I hope we can increase trade between our two countries which amounted to US$61.1mil (RM188mil) last year,” said Mustapa.
He also pointed out that there were about 20,000 tourist arrivals from Kazakhstan last year.
“Kazakhstan is rich in oil and gas, and one of the most developed nations in Central Asia. It is also very interested in finding out more about our model of development, including our economic growth corridors.”
