Terengganu Government To
Introduce A Chain Of Hardware Shops In May
KUALA TERENGGANU, April 3 (Bernama) -- The state government plans to
launch a chain of building materials hardware retail shops named T-Hardware in
May this year.
Chairman of the State Committee for Rural Development, Entrepreneurs and Cooperatives, Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera said the building materials are expected to be offered at lower prices.
"These building products and equipment will be imported from China and sold at the T-Hardware stores.
"Hopefully, the opening of the shops will help be a source of economy especially for the people of this state," he told reporters here Tuesday.
He said several suppliers from China have already agreed to supply the building items directly, such as cement, nails and shovels to the Product Collection Centre owned by Yayasan Pembangunan Usahawan (YPU) or Entrepreneurs Development Foundation.
"The network of T-Hardware stores will be opened in stages with YPU having already identified the traders keen to collaborate on this business.
"With this, we will be supplying the building materials at a lower price to each of the T-Hardware retailer. Apart from operating with their own brand name, the clients would also be able to source for various materials for the construction industry at a much lower and competitive price than in the local market."
Mohamed said YPU will also help with the renovation of the retail shops so that their products are displayed in a systematic and neat manner, and hence make them even more competitive.
Each of T-Hardware shop could potentially reach sales of up to RM5 million a year.
The state government has established several business chains for the people in the state such as the T-Shoope, T-Lekor dan T-Kafe.
The establishment of these shops were intended to ensure that more people from the Bumiputera community in the state ventured into the sector and hence increase their participation in the building industry system.
