All to get
discount card
KUALA LUMPUR: ALL Malaysians will eventually
get the 1Malaysia Privilege Card (1MPrivilege) and enjoy discounts when
shopping in participating outlets.
The card would be offered to the 1.4 million civil
servants under phase two and, later, to all Malaysians under phase three, said
www.1mprivilege.my, the Finance Ministry’s website dedicated to the initiative.
The first phase was launched on Tuesday to benefit
members of the armed forces and the police.
1MPrivilege is an initiative under the National
Blue Ocean Strategy mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to lessen
the people’s financial burden.
Najib on Tuesday said the initiative was the
government’s way of appreciating security personnel, who had made huge
sacrifices for the nation’s security.
Under phase one — which is the result of a
collaboration between the Home, Defence and Finance Ministries
— 241,000 policemen and soldiers will receive their cards
free of charge.
Those who do not get theirs by Sept 1 can
contact their superiors.
Card users get discounts at 20 outlets, including
Mydin, KFC, Jakel Trading, Al-Ikhsan and BH Petrol.
The card will subsequently be given to retired
security personnel.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek
Hussin, in a text message to the New Straits Times yesterday, said widows and
widowers of fallen security personnel could be considered later.
Registration of card users’ details are not
compulsory.
However, it is encouraged via the 1MPrivilege
portal, which enables users to receive news about discounts and participating
merchants as well as to update their details.
