Education and Health: two key areas to be strengthened, says Muhyiddin
KUALA LUMPUR: Education and health are two key areas to be strengthened towards making Malaysia a fully developed country by the year 2020, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the government always encouraged any form of cooperation between private and public sectors in developing the two areas
.
In terms of education, Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said Malaysia now attracted students from China, Africa and West Asia because of the low cost in pursuing higher studies in this country as compared to studying in Europe or countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia.
He said this at a dialogue session with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Forbes, Steve Forbes at the Forbes Global CEO Conference 2011 here today.
Furthermore, Muhyiddin said the Malaysian government now was also active in promoting medical tourism in which people could get quality medical treatment at various hospitals and specialist centres throughout the country. “Malaysia is now the first choice destination for people from Indonesia in the aspect of medical tourism," he said.
On terrorism, he said Malaysia focused on engaging closely with other parties, internally and externally in combating terrorism, adding that the government was very commited to fighting terrorism in any form.
"We have cooperated with many countries such as the United States and Australia where transboundary issues including human trafficking is being dealt with," he said.
The three-day Forbes Global CEO Conference 2011 which ended here today brought together CEOs and leaders of some of the world's most important companies to share their winning strategies. -- BERNAMA
